Feature rich and easy to use in car entertainment system

Having modified a few cars in my time I’ve installed a variety of custom in car entertainment systems (or ‘ICE’, before the acronym was hijacked to differentiate the Internal Combustion Engine from EV Electric Motors) and this would have blown minds years ago. Just north of a £ton for a full colour 1080P touch screen device that offers bluetooth telephone integration, USB and Micro SD Card music jukebox, built in speaker, microphone, rear view camera, wireless remote control, wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and so much more… This is an impressive, easy to setup and install in car entertainment system. The unit comes with everything needed for installation. The instruction manual is ok if a little lacking in places, and the quick start guide is a bit useless and doesn’t really explain how to do what it’s showing can be done. However, the cables mostly have unique terminals that only connect a certain way so I had the main unit plugged in and setup in a few minutes. The steering wheel remote came with a battery installed and was pre-linked to the main unit. The rear view camera comes with long cables and a small bracket for mounting at the rear of the vehicle. A microphone with a lengthy cable is provided that can be installed near the driver for phone calls etc. (plus there’s a built in microphone within the main unit too). And the touchscreen is supplied with a mount with a sucker for attaching the screen to the dashboard (with a smooth sticky pad for use when the dashboard is textured and unsuitable for a suction mount).Once I’d plugged the power adapter into the cigarette lighter, activating the cars ignition brought the main unit instantly to life. Its 7 inch touchscreen looks great with rich colours and good contrast. The screen auto brightens and dims as the external light changes (it works really well) and the integrated features can be accessed and altered via an on screen settings menu.At first the sound came through a built in speaker which is great to have but doesn’t make listening to music very enjoyable, so I connected the audio to the cars stereo. It’s so sensible that this can be done via bluetooth, physical aux link and through the radio by transmitting an FM signal that the cars radio picks up. That last option works surprisingly well providing a mostly clean signal, and the aux input works perfectly providing car filling sound.Linking my iPhone for wireless CarPlay was extremely easy. I selected the unit from the phones bluetooth menu (say yes when the phone asks if the code is on the main screen - even though it doesn’t actually appear), clicked ‘yes’ on my phone when asked if I wanted to use wireless CarPlay and it was done. CarPlay was immediately on screen with all the expected features available.Controlling the device can be achieved using a multi button remote that features a rubber strap to attach it to the steering wheel. It also operates by voice via Siri or Google Assistant when using CarPlay or Android Auto and it is easily done via the touchscreen, that is nicely responsive. The wireless CarPlay can be a little slow in certain scenarios (it takes a second for tracks to change when flicking through your music, for example), but that’s a wireless CarPlay thing rather than an issue with the entertainment system. The feature packed unit works well with or without a smart phone connected and offers impressive functionality and build quality for such a reasonable price. It’s great value and a huge improvement over a standard CD player, tape deck or any car where CarPlay or Android Auto is wanted.

Does what it should. Unclear instructions.

Nice big dashboard display unit. Connects to phone and car easily enough, There is a rear view camera included but I aa unable to figure out how to connect it from the instructions, I think a not included cable might be required. Comes with a microphone and an aux cable. Can be used without, which really cuts down on unnecessary wires in the cockpit. Navigation easy to use and works just fine. Using android auto gives an excellent connection to my phone and the media stored on it. Easy to mount on dash, with several options available. All in all an great piece of kit, if only i could get the camera to work!4 stars.
