Features

  • Car video reader with Android dashboard ATOTO S8 Gen2 Standard/S8G2A74SD with navigation (without DVD), HD rearview mirror with LRV, Android Auto and Wireless CarPlay, IPS display and more

  • S8 Gen2 is the second generation of the ATOTO S8 Android car radio. Its SoC utilizes a 12 nm production process (higher efficiency), the ARM Cortex Octa-Core processor (high performance), and the latest ATOTO AICE UI 11.0 (deep customization on Android Q). The new S8 brings satisfaction in various operations. 3 Internet access methods: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB Tethering (traditional Android head units typically use only Wi-Fi).

  • Volume control with speed compensation (SCVC) - Automatically adjusts the volume of the S8 system according to the vehicle's speed to regulate road and wind noise. The S8 allows for six touch gestures that support a two or three-finger tap to quickly access the multi-task menu, switch between 9 preset EQ modes, adjust screen brightness, etc., enhancing operational safety while driving.

  • Dual Bluetooth (BT1 5.0 and BT2 4.1): The S8 can simultaneously connect to phones and BT devices. BT2 connects to a Bluetooth phone to access the Internet or a Bluetooth OBD2 device to scan engine codes. BT1 offers Bluetooth hands-free and A2DP audio, activates the phone's voice assistant (Siri, Google Assistant), and locks/unlocks the screen to protect privacy. With wired Android Auto and CarPlay; wireless CarPlay has been supported since September 1, 2021.

  • S8 (Gen2) Standard with ATOTO AC-HD02LR camera shows an HD image for rearview and features a live rearview (LRV) - Access to the rearview even when the car is in motion, eliminating obstacles from passengers, headrests, vehicle roof, and rear pillars, increasing field of vision (the lanes behind and traditional blind spots). The 178° IPS display with higher contrast significantly enhances the viewing experience in daylight.

  • S8G2A74SD adopts the UDH07D mounting style (universal double DIN main unit with a 7-inch display), almost all double DIN dash kits are compatible, and with an applied double DIN dash kit, you will achieve a seamless look. Additionally, continuous firmware updates for the system are available from ATOTO. Receive ongoing firmware updates when available to ensure fewer bugs and new features added.

poor RCA output

been using daily for a few months - this unit has issuesunit is basically very good, screen is bright and responsive yet despite many recalibrations the touch is slightly off which causes issues when drivingsupplied accessories are excellent - there are a few different iso looms in the box that should cover whichever variant of power supply wiring your vehicle uses, this is a massive plus point for atoto as my last "big brand" head unit (jvc) didn't even come with oneit would help if the supplied paperwork gave instruction on how to enter the "secret menu" as it contains features that are of help to the installer, the info is out there on the web but you have to search for ithands free bluetooth calling is excellent and probably its best feature, people I speak to tell me that I am clear with no echo/delay and most importantly - if you have had other chinese android units in the past you will understand - they can hear me properly as the mic volume isn't too low which is a massive plus point for this unit. It would be better if you could change the incoming call ring tone though, as the unit uses the old nokia tone that everybody over the age of 35 should remember!my connected USB dab tuner works flawlessly with the dab-z appoverall a good piece of kit BUT - and this is where the unit fails for me - when an external amp is connected using the RCA outs on the rear there is a background hiss that cannot be overcome. My testing tells me this is due to the unit outputting very low voltage over the RCA outs (typical of cheaper chinese head units) and re-routing all the earth connections, fitting CP line converters, resetting external gains, ground loop isolators - all the tricks of the trade cannot cure this. I do not know if this background noise is present when connecting direct to speakers and using the inbuilt amp as I haven't wired it this way but no amount of external amp gain adjustment or the other usual "fixes" can cure this background hiss and it spoils what could have been the best chinese android unit I have used yet

a decent unit but there are some issues.

I now own two atotos as I wanted some uniformity in the cars i have. This was the first to go in and i purchased an s8 ultra for my second car.The units themselves are a good size. They are not too deep so it is relatively easy to hide all the wiring behjind them. The physical buttons have a good click to them with no squishiness to them. There is no mistaking a press to a miss when using them which is good.the screen itself is good. at full brightness it is very bright and allows for one touch dimming or brightening at will. The user interface is clear and easy to read. it was easy to set up and install all the apps i wanted. The cons to the unit:For some reason this unit specifically identifies as something other than a tablet and does not allow me to install netflix as it states it is unavailable on this device. The amount of times I would use netflex when parked is minimal so this is a small issue. The heat! the unit gives off a LOT of heat. So much so that i have been getting somewhat worried it may affect the plastic around the unit. This is something i am not too happy with.Sound. For whatever reason BOTH units have their sound set relatively low. For anyone that likes their music moderately loud at times, it is easy to turn the volume to full and still be left wanting. Given that the units primary function is music and sound, this is very bothersome at times and is the reason for losing the two stars.Overall the unit is good and ok value for money.

SSD - Can't handle large volumes of files.

Music collection on SSD. Music app struggles to handle large volume of files on SSD. Product description states it can handle 2TB SSDs but it struggled to handle files equating to 512GB.The unit also denied access to the SSD by other apps ie Google Files and other music apps. This was despite all the relevant permissions in place. My budget phone works better with the SSD than this head unit.

Pretty solid Apple CarPlay head unit - recommended.

I’ve had this installed for a little over 2 weeks of daily use, so feel able to write a review. It’s been great so far. Details below.I research everything to death, and this brand came out near the top for reliability, features and customer support.Other options in the android head unit game tend to come direct from China. I have purchased from those shops before and had good experiences, but for this kind of value item it is a bonus that it can be purchased from Amazon in UK.I was coming from a JVC double din head unit of 10 years plus. Maps out of date long ago, and no CarPlay/Android Auto functionality, which is a must these days I feel. Needless to say this is a huge upgrade for my work van (Nissan NV200).Installation:Installation was quite straightforward, partly thanks to a very comprehensive manual in well written English, which isn’t guaranteed for all Chinese sourced products. That attention to detail helps Atoto’s reputation in the market.I am quite savvy technically and with DIY, so didn’t have too much issue. Main thing is to find your correct wiring harness adapter for your vehicle to connect everything up correctly. Google is your friend here. The main struggle I had was actually working out how to remove all the dash panels in my van, not much online for my vehicle (Nissan NV200).I have yet to solder in my steering wheel controls, so I may update this when done.Same with the reversing camera, hoping to install their HD03 camera soon which gives an exciting looking birds eye view when reversing. Will update review when that’s in.Apple CarPlay:As a window cleaner, I am in and out of the van frequently throughout the day, so wireless CarPlay was a must for me. This works pretty flawlessly. Super quick boot up and connection to phone, CarPlay being visible within around 8 seconds of engine start, which I think is great. And yes, the actual head unit starts at the advertised 2 seconds if having been used within a fairly recent period.I haven’t tested Android Auto as yet.Note: I have had a couple of hangs of the app that provides CarPlay, which makes it unresponsive until restarted, but on the whole very stable. Will update this review if it becomes a problem.Sound:Sound quality is certainly equal to JVC branded unit, plus even more bass which I had to turn down, easily done. Very detailed adjustment with their EQ settings and other adjustments too, more than I need. Great sound.Screen:Touch response is very quick, everything works smoothly.Image quality is sharp, don’t let the seemingly low 600p resolution fool you, this is plenty sharp enough for a 7 inch screen in a vehicle. If they put too high a resolution screen in, user interface elements would display too small to touch easily, unless a lot of software work went in.Brightness is fine also, definitely bright enough in most conditions I’ve found, and dims automatically when headlights are on if you have wired it correctly with the right adapter for your vehicle. Both of these brightness settings are easy to change.Overall image quality is very good.In conclusion, so far after 2 weeks I am very pleased with this head unit and would recommend to others. I will update the review when I’ve set up my steering controls and installed the HD03 reverse camera, and if anything changes in what I’ve written, but as of right now, I can wholeheartedly recommend this head unit. You get an awful lot of technology for your money compared to the main competition.

A Great Improvement

I bought this to replace a Kenwood head unit that drained the car battery to empty over two days, was rewired to fit a disconnect switch, then began to 'explode' the audio then reboot itself so often it became unusable. This led to me being very wary of buying another, but did lots of research and this Atoto head seemed the best reviewed and good value (not the cheapest, but wasn't willing to take the risk of a cheaper one), and the fact it was android based meant I could, hopefully, configure it to suit my preferences.I'm really pleased I chose this unit and am totally happy with it so far.Installation in my VW Caddy was easy, although I had to use 2 frames to make it fit snugly (one supplied with the unit, the other came with the Kenwood - could have got away with the other supplied frame, but my OCD kicked in)Initial setup of the unit was straightforward, but I recommend updating the firmware (easily obtained from Atoto once you register the unit) before connecting to your phone to allow wireless Android Auto to work, which it does seamlessly.I had a slight problem with syncing phone contacts but solved easily by use of a help video sent by Fannie at Atoto within 2 hours of replying to her email which was sent as a welcome once registered. This quick response was very satisfying, particularly following the poor to non-existent customer service I received from Kenwood, and bodes well for the future. Then onto configuring to suit me....I seriously considered using a different launcher as I found the default layout too 'bright and colourful', and, as I mainly use it for music, found the default music player far too limited.Changing the layout and colour scheme was very easy, and I decided on VLC player for my music app which works nicely, displaying by artist, album, genre, etc.The radio app took a little getting used to, but I soon stored my favourite stations once I worked out that you have to use the search button rather than the skip ones (which did the search on my old unit - 'read the *** manual :)) )One thing I found was that the radio volume is much higher than other sources by default, but this is easily balanced by the use of a hidden system menu - easy to access. In use....I find the screen very responsive and clear to read from driving position.Sound quality is a great improvement over the old Kenwood unit with comprehensive DSP.I haven't added much in the way of accessories yet, other than the remote control, but I'm sure I will as time goes on.Overall, very pleased with both the head unit and the customer support from Fannie.
