Reliable CarPlay and Android Auto features for drivers upgrading from traditional factory radios.
I purchased an Atoto S8 Gen 2 four years ago. It worked great and never had any problems with it, but with new technology I was hoping to upgrade my display…something brighter and better. Along came my new Atoto 8SL. What a difference! The display on this unit is amazing. Very bright, clear and colorful. GPS maps look great and the view from the side is also much better as it has a 178 degree wide viewing angle. The unit was very easy to install and I got it up running quickly on my Toyota truck. The unit integrated well with my steering wheel controls and worked flawlessly with my backup camera. At first I wasn’t certain about the physical buttons but now I love them. They allow me to control audio and navigate the system quicker. For me it’s easier than having to press on the screen all the time.I’m primarily a Carplay user and it was very easy to connect to bluetooth and get that running. The unit is very flexible in that it also allows me to connect to the internet with my iPhone through wifi hotspot or with the included built in 4G sim card slot if needed.Audio quality is also great. The built-in DSP and equalizer result in noticeably improved sound. Music sounds cleaner, vocals are more defined, and the overall listening experience is much more enjoyable.Atoto’s support is great as they are quick and responsive. I had a couple of questions that they answered for me quickly. So far this unit is what I was hoping for when upgrading. The combination of a large clear bright touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration and strong audio capabilities makes it a winner for me!
This Atoto S8L head unit is an excellent value. It is a little retro with a large control dial and actual switches for various functions that are way easier to use on a bumpy road than the onscreen buttons on typical tablet displays or head units.I have a RAM truck that cannot be easily upgraded. I purchased a Metra double din case (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003D3NEQ8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1) from Amazon, installed the 10.1" Android 15 ATOTO head unit in it, wired in an inexpensive LED rocker switch to act as the accessory circuit, and use a 3.5mm TRS to dual RCA cable to connect the head unit line level output to the aux-in on my stock RAM receiver. I then secure the unit to my dash just above the RAM radio. This allows me to easily move the receiver between vehicles or even to use the receiver as a tablet in the back of my Ford Transit camper van. As the photos show, the unit draws about one amp of current and runs Android 15. I have a convenient solution that can run all android apps such as OBDII engine monitors (JSCAN for the RAM, Forscan for the Ford), run SLING, Google Maps, Waze, radio apps, and any other Android app. Of course, I can also play music from a USB thumbdrive using PowerAmp or VLC for Android, and have access to local AM and FM stations. Some of these apps require an Internet connection. I could hotspot from my phone, but this head unit also allows me to insert a SIM from my Google FI plan. When I inserted the SIM, the ATOTO receiver recognized it and gave me 4G LTE broadband service. The package came with a free 10-day broadband SIM trial using major networks, but I did not try that. My own Fi SIM worked perfectly. This unit takes care of all my mobile tech needs in one convenient and portable package. With the big screen, I may also try to connect a bluetooth keyboard and leave my laptop at home. The unit can connect with my phone to connect calls or display Android Auto, but I don't really need AA from my phone since the tablet and wireless connection takes care of that need. I do recommend disabling ATOTO's ZLINK program though. ZLINK facilitates an Android Auto connection, but the ZLINK app kinda takes over the independent tablet function. To disable ZLINK, when the carlink program opens, press ZLINK's settings button, disable autostart, and reboot by turning off the receiver and the ignition accessory switch for 15 seconds and restarting. You will then be back in the Android 15 world.Given all the features of the S8L and the great value it gives me by combining a receiver, a tablet, a self-contained broadband service, and a big screen, I have all the services I need.
Atoto is a great value and has great customer service. I just needed a software update so i wrote them with a pic of my information screen and they emailed the right software ready to put on a micro sd and the instructions to flash it. I just installed an amp and 2 15 foot rca runs after the A6 ran my stock speakers for years, and it sounds great.
I’ve had ATOTO head units over the years, but the ATOTO S8L is on a completely different level. The 10.1” QLED display is stunning — bright, sharp, and easy to see even in direct sunlight. It makes my old dash feel brand new.Wireless CarPlay connect instantly every time. No lag, no random disconnects, just smooth performance. The 4G+64G storage combo is more than enough for apps and offline maps, and having 4G LTE built in is a game changer for real‑time navigation and streaming. It makes me want to get a data plan just for the radio. The audio quality blew me away. The DSP with 32‑band EQ and SCVC let me dial in the sound exactly how I like it, and the optical S/PDIF out is something you usually only see in high‑end setups. My speakers have never sounded better.I also love the extra touches ATOTO added — the AI Agent is surprisingly helpful, the HDMI in/out makes it super flexible, and the parking monitor + HD LRV (live rear‑view) gives me peace of mind. Even the GPS tracking is spot‑on.Installation was straightforward, and the interface is fast and intuitive. It genuinely feels like having a modern luxury‑car infotainment system in my older vehicle. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. This unit is worth every penny. I’m a fan of ATOTO radios. It’s packed with features, performs flawlessly, and makes driving more enjoyable every day.
✅ Punti di forzaFunzionalità e connettività elevateIl modello S8G1104MS supporta Internet via 4G LTE integrato, Wi-Fi dual-band, Bluetooth avanzato, oltre a CarPlay wireless, Android Auto wireless e MirrorLink. Ad esempio:“the damn thing will completely wipe itself… and ATOTO… slammed the door in my face regarding the warranty.”Reddit– Un altro utente:“Bluetooth audio quality is absolutely dreadful … update two separate firmwares from ATOTO …”RedditQuesto suggerisce che anche se l’hardware è valido, l’esperienza può dipendere molto dal firmware, dagli aggiornamenti e dal supporto post-vendita. Budget totale incluso montaggio, eventuali adattatori, telecamere aggiuntive.
