Good for the $$

Has great functions and the option to splash your cars logo on startup is fantastic. Its very weird, if you look inside it, its just a screen and a circuit board on the floor, so I dont get why they made a whole box for this radio, but whatever. The amp in it sucks and distorts easy, so if you like your music at a decent volume, get an aftermarket amp. RCA outputs put out plenty of voltage, so sound is great. This radio is all I needed, and I have yet to read the manual to see all the functions, so I recommend it for a cheapie system.Apple Carplay works seamlessly.Update-6/03/2022: If you get this radio and the time keeps resetting, its a symptom that something has a parasitic draw on your battery, which brings the battery to under 12v, and this radio stops pulling current for time memory.I found out another component I have was draining the battery. Once I got rid of that component, and replaced my battery, the time was consistent.Cons/Quirks:Touch screen isnt as sensitive as it should be.Touch Volume control is right at the bottom of the screen, its tough to slide with a not so sensitive screen, and sliding a finger right against the recessed shelf of the face is not ideal.Unless I did something wrong, the MP3s stay in the order that they were loaded on the drive, rather than alphabetical. Takes a bit of getting used to. I havent found a setting that fixes this. When you have a phone call on carplay, the music doesnt pause, it keeps playing but the sound is muted while youre on the phone call. When you go back to music, youre 50 songs past where you were.Scrolling on this screen is also difficult because of the screen. Choosing songs can be a problem when the screen chooses a song instead of scrolling. But if you dont press hard enough, it wont scroll. Pain in the neck.I hope Atoto makes a compatible remote (with more buttons than the steering wheel one) for this so I can get that. Otherwise in another year Ill just buy the more expensive radio.

Big bang for the buck!

Installed in a 2008 Ford Focus. I ordered a CRUX interface from Crutchfield, which makes installing any car audio head a breeze. No instructions needed, as everything was labeled on the CRUX and the ATOTO wires themselves had tiny print label right on the wire. Backup camera a breeze to install. No need to splice into reverse light on car (because of the CRUX) Wireless Apple CarPlay was almost instant and works great. Unfortunately you can’t move the icons around on this ATOTO, but if you reorder your list of apps on your iPhone (under CarPlay settings), they do rearrange on the ATOTO. You can add your own backgrounds which was a nice feature. Sound is amazing, the preset EQs, are done near perfect. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because there doesn’t seem to be a way to cast your screen onto the ATOTO, even if my iPhone is connected to ATOTO’s wireless network (yes this head unit comes with a wireless antenna and broadcasts it’s own private network. If I figure out a way to mirror my iPhone screen to the ATOTO, I’ll revise to 5 stars.

Carplay at Bargain Price but Not Perfect

I purchased this unit knowing it was the least expensive on Amazon. The display is very bright. Audio quality is excellent with adequate power for a head unit. Menus are intuitive and everything works pretty solid. My only real issue is with the glitchy carplay functionality. Most of the time it works but sometimes I must unplug from the phone and plug back in for functionality to be restored.

A legitimate choice for a low-end head unit w/ responsive customer support.

Normally I'm pretty dubious about buying electronics that are engineered/designed in China and I feel that you often get what you pay for, however I have found some electronics in China that actually were well designed and engineered and at least gave the appearance of high quality. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what country it comes from, rather that the people behind it actually put in effort. When I wanted to replace the head unit on my weekend car, I initially was only looking for a cheap single-din head unit with bluetooth (Pioneer, Sony, Etc), but when I realized I could get Carplay for nearly the same price I figured I'd give it a try. How bad could it be? And besides it's not like I'm using it every day. I decided to give it a try. As a point of reference I have a Sony XAV AX1000 in my daily driver, which is about as basic as it gets for a Carplay head unit and costs twice as much. Initial impressions while unboxing were very good. Packaging felt high quality, it came with 2 screen protectors which I thought was a nice touch (matte finish and clear), an external mic, and a video harness that I didn't end up using. The unit itself seemed flawless. The harness used standard wiring colors and was well labeled. At this point it was seemed no different than a Pioneer or Sony. Also one thing that's worth mentioning is that the instruction manual was written and illustrated very well. I've always found a good indicator of quality when it comes to Chinese electronics is the quality of the documentation. Installation was no different than any other head unit and one really nice touch was that it interfaces with resistive-type steering wheel controls without needing an interface like the SWC-1. So how does it work? Really well actually! First off, the display is gorgeous. I honestly wasn't expecting it at all, and definitely much better than the low-res TFT resistive panel on my Sony. Bright, nice rich colors and sharp lines. The interface while, obviously borrowing heavily from Apple's aesthetic is fluid and quick. There's a good amount of settings and customization, notably the ability to have separate volume levels for each source, and the ability to set the brightness level with headlights on and off. Only complaint about the interface is the AM/FM radio is a bit confusing to operate and doesn't adhere to normal standards when it comes to setting presets, etc. I couldn't figure it out without reading the manual. Carplay starts up at least as quickly as it does on my Sony and seems to work just fine. Seems very stable (wish I could say the same about the Sony). There is one issue however, and that brings me to my first interaction with Atoto customer service. There seems to be a bug in the internal audio switching. While listening to audio via Carplay, if you want to listen a different source such as the FM radio, but continue to use Carplay for navigation, etc, you can't. When you go back into Carplay the audio from your phone resumes. This is stupid annoying because I like to listen to the news frequently on my morning commute. Additionally sometimes when activating Siri, the FM radio will come on in the background. There is a workaround however, in that if the FM radio is currently playing before you plug your phone in, it will continue to play while Carplay is on the screen. I reached out to Atoto's customer service explaining the issue. I honestly was not expecting to hear any response, but I actually got a reply within a few hours. The rep asked me to film a video of the issue and send it to them, which I happily obliged. They reviewed the issue and agreed that it's not supposed to work that way and that the engineers will work on a fix but didn't have a timeline yet. Fair enough. At least the recognized the issue actually responded. Oh, but they did offer me a return and refund and when I said that's ok I'll keep it and wait to see what happens, they offered to send me a free backup camera as compensation for my troubles. Now lets contrast that with Sony. Sony has a well known issue with Carplay freezing during phone calls, audio going haywire, and sometimes locking up/rebooting the head unit. Sony customer service says there's nothing wrong and there'll be no firmware updates, despite many users having this issue. That's it. Stick it in your rear end. Did I mention that the Sony costs twice as much? As far as sound quality, I'm using the 2v preouts directly into the factory bose amp/speakers on my '06 Miata so I can't really give an honest assessment of sound quality other than to say it sounds at least as good as the factory head unit did. 2v preouts are par for the course on lower end head units and I don't see it sounding any better or worse. It does have a 7-band EQ and typical crossover adjustments. In conclusion I'm actually very impressed with this head unit. It's a real piece of electronics made by people that appear to care. I wouldn't put it up against an Alpine Halo9 or anyt...
