This Atoto adapter is CarPlay on steroids. It’s basically an android cell phone and a CarPlay adapter combined into one device. It has a SimCard slot and comes with a trial Sim Card with 100MB free data. I don’t plan to use the SIM card since I should be able to use my cell phone’s data. However, this was harder to setup than expected. Being a true android, it has a ton of settings. You want to connect your phone to it with Bluetooth and “Share Internet Connection over Bluetooth”.The adapter basically has two modes, CarPlay/Android Auto and an Android Phone. The Phone side is where you get all the extra apps you wouldn’t normally have on CarPlay. I was able to to watch YouTube on my car’s screen. It has the Google play store, so you should be able to download any app you want.The main disadvantage I see over my previous CarPlay Adapter is the bootup time. It’s somewhere around 30 seconds which is twice as long as my old one. Not to mention the number of connection options get complicated fast once you start digging into them.The adapter comes with a variety (3) of USB cables for any situation.Overall, I’m pretty happy with this Adapter, but there is room for improvement.

I cannot stress how surprised I was with how well this device works and how easily it connects! All the features it comes with pre-installed; Netflix, Prime Video, Disney, Waze, iNTERNET (Actual internet browser), TikTok (It actually works like the regular app) and many music apps including Youtube, Spotify and Amazon music. I also love that I can install a 4G SIM card that is already included and it works! Only bad thing is that it only comes with a 100MB data and it was used up by me just entering my email and updating an app. I would suggest connecting to WIFI for set up and using the 4G sim for on the go. I loved the customer service of the SIM card included, easy to set up and great communication. All the apps work great and the streaming device itself is great quality and easy to set. up as well. No extra streaming stick needed, I just connected to the Google App Store and was able to use it and I can also connect my iPhone thru an app but I truly don't even have to! Definitely recommend it for the great functionality. I am so happy I go it for road trips and when I'm waiting at work or lunch in my car!

This is the second ATOTO adapter I have tried, and this one actually works! I have a Porsche Macan which supports Apple Carplay only – not Android Auto. I use a Samsung Galaxy phone and have no desire to switch to Apple, so I had not been able to use screen integration with my car. Then I heard about ATOTO making these adapters that would support Carplay and Android Auto on both the phone and car radio, translating between the two protocols. I actually tried another ATOTO device a few months ago, the AD5A model. My car thought I had an Apple Carplay device connected, but it talked Android Auto to my phone. It did work, but it was a challenge to configure, and it was slow to connect. Sometimes it was so slow connecting to the radio that I would drive several miles before it would start working, and then sometimes it took even longer to connect to my phone. Still, I used it because it was better than nothing.When this CBC6 model came out, I saw that it had an additional feature of supporting a SIM card for direct Internet connection, plus it has a much more powerful processor, so I decided to order it and give it a try. I can say that this one works very well. There are some things about these devices that you need to know. First of all, they ONLY support a wired USB connection to the car. If your car only supports wireless Carplay or Android Auto, this will not work. Also, the instructions are very cryptic. They instruct you to download an app, but that is not necessary. Basically, you plug the puck into the car’s USB port and then have the car connect to it as an Apple Carplay (or Android Auto) device. Once it connects, you get the device’s full Android O/S screen. It’s like using an Android tablet on your car’s radio.Getting a phone connected via Android Auto (or Apple Carplay) is not very intuitive. There is an app for screen mirroring, but that is literally mirroring. The phone integration app is called SpeedPlay. First you pair your phone via Bluetooth, then you launch SpeedPlay, accept any authorizations on the phone, and it’s connected. The Android Auto integration works very well. In my car, it takes less than 20 seconds from the time the radio starts up to when I have my Galaxy phone’s apps on the screen.Now, one thing this ATOTO CBC6 device does is to operate as an Android device so you can use your favorite Google Play apps without a phone. It does require an Internet connection, so you could use your phone as a hotspot for that, or it can accept a SIM card for its own wireless Internet access. The device comes with a SIM card from EIOT Club that includes 100MB of totally free data. If you register and activate the card, you get 10GB for 10 days for no charge, but it signs up for recurring billing. You can disable auto renewal and us the free data (on the EIOT website, go to Refill > Orders and uncheck the Renewal option). One thing I did have to do was change the Internet settings in the ATOTO device to use a US-based LTE protocol – it had defaulted to internation wireless connections.Using the native Android O/S of the ATOTO, you can run pretty much any Google Play app like Netflix, Prime, Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, etc. There is also a n SD card slot and a USB port for adding your own media. The instructions about downloading apps on your phone (and the device) seem to center around a function called DriverChat, which is an interactive AI voice recognition system. I tried it, and it works about like any voice system. Personally I don’t like to “talk” to my devices so I don’t use it.Overall, this is a great device. It has a lot of features that many will find exciting, but for me, the best part is that it allows me to use my Galaxy phone with Android Auto in my car that only supports Apple Carplay. It’s fast and works well. I highly recommend it.
