Very nice stereo upgrade in looks, sound, and functionality

I wasn’t sure what I was getting when I purchased this Atotoout double din car stereo, but so far I have been ultra impressedInstalling this 9 inch QLED double din head unit has been a pleasure. The crisp 1280 x 720 QLED screen really enhances visibility and looks far more premium than most budget units I’ve purchased in the past. The response of the capacitive touchscreen makes navigating menus and apps feel intuitive, which cuts down on me having to make support calls. Support for both wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and android auto gives me flexibility to all my workers phone set ups, which is something I really appreciate. Audio integration is solid with built-in DSP & EQ options that let me tailor the sound easily without needing extra modules, and the dual Bluetooth makes pairing multiple devices seamless. There is the occasional connectivity quirk with wireless CarPlay. Fortunately, this is a seldom occurrence.Overall, I’m thrilled once it got dialed in. In short, it’s a feature rich upgrade that installs cleanly and significantly modernizes my older dashboard while leaving me very satisfied with its daily performance.

Perfect Upgrade for an Older Vehicle – ATOTO Delivers Again!

Vehicle: 2004 Toyota Sienna LE with 6 speaker systemProduct: ATOTO S8 Gen 3 9" Android Head UnitReviewer Experience: 5 years using ATOTO (previously installed S8 Pro in a 1999 Oldsmobile)Why I Upgraded to Atoto:Five years ago, I upgraded my 1999 Oldsmobile with an ATOTO S8 Pro 1st gen to comply with new cell phone laws and bring my car into the 21st century for added safety features and engine monitoring. Since I have had no issues with it over the last 5 years I knew that It would be an Atoto for my wife’s 2004 Toyota Sienna needed the same treatment.Fast forward 5 years and now have a second car for my wife, An 04 Toyota Sienna, that sorely needs a radio upgrade and some advanced technology to bring it up to date with todays safety equipment. About a year ago, I upgraded the 2004 radio to 2008 radio and wired in a factory AUX port for a “quasi” hands-free Bluetooth setup, It worked but was not ideal, We needed a backup camera, A constant OBD2 connection to monitor the engine and better call quality. Over the past year, I slowly gathered parts to prepare for a full overhaul.Sourced the steering wheel buttons with phone controls from a 08 limited AWD van. Finally found some good OEM JBL door speakers to replace my 04 cracked ones. Collected wiring harness bits. Studied wiring diagrams.I was waiting and saving up for a new radio. Then came the deciding factor that I needed to upgrade, backing into a trash can and cracking a tail light. So looking, I settled on the S8 3rd gen. It fit the budget with the features i needed. While The S8 3rd is packed a number of latest features for all markets, these are the features that interest me most-Android Auto-Full Android OS-Dual Bluetooth-4/32 memory-Bluetooth tethering-9" touch screen-Backup camera-Dash camera-USB ports-WIFI-GPS-USB for TPMS system-decent amp-Cell SIM card slotNow for the install,Install is straightforward, add in the connectors for the features you plan to use. Leave out and save any you do not currently plan to use, because you might want to add in a feature.Being someone that doesn't like to cut into wiring harnesses and I knew that aftermarket harnesses often do not have all the actual connections needs for all the aftermarkets wiring (past Metra harness for my 99 I had to get 2, 1 for extra connectors) I decided to build my own from a donor factory harness pulled form an 06 Sienna. Since I know how the factory harness is setup, I was able to pull the factory harness from a salvage van and used that to build a harness that I can just plug in and unplug easily. I wanted all the various connections to be fed through the connectors and be able to be unplugged without having to cut anything.I used butt connectors and heat shrink tubing to make all the connections and wrapped all the wires in a bundle to build a harness and control the mess of wires into a neat bundle. I also used a PAC SWI-CP2 Pro adapter. Looked online and set it to the Atoto radio and Toyota van. Wrapped it up and had it ready. Then time to go the van and start the radio install.I knew the 9 screen was bigger then double din opening and was going to wider and stick out further past the opening of the Metra faceplate bracket and not be flush. But measuring the radio for the space, I knew it would be around the top of the vents, But positioning the radio into the dash took some tweaking, I had to move the radio out a further, so the dash trim stock console panels can removable without hitting the wider radio. For the 2 USB port for the radio, one is storage access and the other is data. I added a front single USB port for a wired connection if needed. But left the storage USB port unplugged since I plane to add a USB TPMS system later. When I turned the radio on for the first time, I added my phone to the Bluetooth and the radio started the wireless AA connection immediately connected with no effort on my part.As with all S8s, AA it automatically connects to the last connected phone. To switch to a different phone, you go to devices andselect a different paired phone and it then connect automatically to AA.Backup Camera Setup & Troubleshooting:I wired in the rearview camera. I followed factory wiring the harness in the van, fished the end through the grommet between the hatch and the body, zip tied the wiring in place, at the B pillar routed to the center console, up to the radio, just enough wire length to make the connection. In the Sienna hatch, there is a splice plug for power and ground, I just added terminal in splice plugs for camera power and ground, then spliced in the backup camera power line. Rearview camera is now functional.Got it all wired up and ran into an issue. I could not get the camera to mirror. Played with setting and nothing. So I went I went into the secret backend setting and toggled so many setting that after one setting the rearview camera was not triggering. Factory Reset and the camera was back, but not mirroring. So I finally emailed ...

Android Head Unit packed with features

If your looking to upgrade your radio and looking for a new head unit that’s packed with features, the ATOTO S8 is it.Installation was real easy and straight forward. The boot up time is quick. The display is bright and clear with a wide viewing angle, and the split screen function is useful for running google maps and music side by side. The wireless Android Auto work flawlessly - quick to connect, no need to plug in the phone every time, and it integrates well with navigation, music, and calls. The 8-core processor keep everything responsive and smooth, even with multiple apps running. With drivechat you can control music, ask for directions, and even get real-time info without looking at the screen. Nice safety feature. With Dual Bluetooth you can connect a phone and an OBD2 scanner at the same time without any issues and the head unit offers four ways to get internet (SIM, USB tethering, Wi-Fi,and Bluetooth).Features I Like:* Bright, responsive touchscreen with split-screen support* Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto* Smooth performance no lagging* Multiple ways to connect to the internet* DSP with time correction, bass boost and a powerful preamp* AI voice assistant via DriveChat.* Dual Bluetooth is great for multitasking* Supports HD front and rear/360 cameras.Cons:* Slight learning curve on the interface* No rotory volume knob.* Cant get the panel lights to stay illuminated. Conclusion:This is one of the most feature rich Android head units for the price. It offers very good performance, lots of connectivity options, and AI voice interaction. This is a top-tier upgrade for modernizing your audio experience.

Robust features at an attractive price. A game changer.

The ATOTO's S8 Gen3 Android Stereo gave my older vehicle a new lease on life! It is an extraordinary accessory for any vehicle, especially at this price point. I drive an older Toyota SUV that I bought new some time ago, before rear view cameras and guidance systems became popular. I love the car, but I was thinking about replacing it because I really wanted two things: 1) Apple CarPlay, and 2) a rear view camera, a safety item that is necessary nowadays. Enter the ATOTO S8 Gen3 unit--it has features galore: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; front AND rear cameras, and the images are HD and crisp; GPS tracking; etc. A nice feature is the ability to record video from the cameras. The stereo produces excellent sound, and it integrated quite well into my existing JBL system speakers, so I didn't need to buy and install new speakers and amplifiers. The unit is responsive--it seamlessly connects to my iPhone via bluetooth (it can also connect to your phone via USB port), so I am able to listen to my music while navigating using either Google Maps or Apple Maps. The unit has an input port for the existing antenna, making it possible to listen to FM/AM radio as well. The double din hardware fit perfectly into the existing stereo cavity. The installation process is a low to medium effort, if one is mechanically inclined. The most challenging part for me was installing the rear view camera, as one has to be able to tap into the reverse gear lights to be able to trigger the camera when putting the vehicle in reverse. Additionally, one has to run the video cable from the rear of the vehicle all the way to the front to connect to the head unit inside the dashboard. An option is to pay a professional to install it for you. I believe it's well worth it!The value proposition of the ATOTO S8 Gen3 is that spending $300 to $400 for a head unit of this caliber can help one avoid purchasing a new car, especially now that the average new vehicle price is around $50K USD. I highly recommend it!
